Mera Houchongba celebrated in Manipur
Imphal, Oct 14 (UNI) 'Mera Houchongba', the festival of unity and oneness, was celebrated with fanfare in Manipur today.
The main function was held at the historic Kangla with hundreds of people offering prayers to Ibudhou Pakhangba.
The celebrations began with a procession from the Royal Palace here led by Leishemba Sanajaoba, the grandson of the Maharaj Boddhachandra.
Mr Sanajaoba lit the lamp inside the camp amid chantings of mantras.
It was followed by cultural programmes.
All the tribes of Manipur were honoured by the Manipur King during the festival, a practice existing since times immemorial.
Rituals were also performed on the occasion to ward off bad omens and bring fortune.
The festival also witnessed lighting of a lamp in every household which was held atop a post for the whole month.
