Jammu, Oct 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a drive against eve-teasers and drug peddlers within the city and its peripheries to keep a check on the rising social evils.
''With increasing complaints of eve-teasing and sale of intoxicants in different localities of the city, special teams have been constituted to act as watchdog and tighten the noose against the miscreants indulging in these acts,'' a senior police official told UNI.
The police officer however, added that around 2 to 3 complaints of eve-teasing are being received every week at different police stations and they are being treated accordingly.
''Policemen in civvies are keeping surveillance in the city areas especially outside the colleges and the schools to trap the eve-teasers,'' the police officer said and added that stern action is being taken against the offenders.
Besides this police is also keeping a close watch on drug peddlers, who are selling intoxicants to the school-going students and youngsters.
''For the last few months, complaints regarding sale of drugs including charas, intoxicant capsules, bhukki were on the rise while strict directions have been issued to the Station House Officers (SHOs) of the police stations concerned and police posts to trap the criminals indulging in social crimes,'' the police officer said.
As the maximum supply of drugs like poppy and charas is being supplied to Jammu and others parts of the country from Kashmir, special deployment have been made at various check posts on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
''Often we recover quantity of contraband material especially the drugs, which are being exported to rest of the country and now strict measures are being taken to strictly deal with the smugglers and those involved in damaging the society,'' the police officer asserted.
