Muslims demand reservation for community
Lucknow, Oct 13 (UNI) Muslim clerics and Maulanas have raked up the issue of insult of the community in the name of terrorism and demanded reservation for the backward Muslims and to make Urdu subject compulsory in schools.
These were some of the issues raised by the Muslim clerics and Maulanas, who participated in a day-long Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) sponsored National Muslim conference addressed by Chief Minister Mayawati.
Renowned Shia cleric Kalbe Sadiq in his address said Muslims should stand on their feet and avoid becoming a 'beggar' by demanding benefits from the government.
He added that the Centre should order impartial probe into the Batala House encounter case as questions have been raised in different quarters.
Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangimahali putting forward a charter of demand urged the UP government to prevent harassment of the Muslim community in Azamgarh in the name of terrorism.
He also demanded reservation for the Muslims and even raised the atrocities adopted by BJP MP Yogi Adityanath in eastern parts of the state.
Shia cleric Kalbe Jawwad in his address demanded that the government should ensure legal assistance to all the suspected people arrested in the state for terrorist acts. He added that an anti-terrorist cell should be constituted in the state to review all the terrorism cases in the state.
He too, along with Khalid Rashid, had demanded from the government to make Urdu subject compulsory in the schools.
