Mobile phones from prisoners found in Manipur, 4 ultras nabbed

Imphal, Oct 13 (UNI) The Manipur Police today revealed that a large number of prisoners in the Sajiwa jail, Imphal East, were in possession of mobile phones.

SP(Imphal East) Th Radhesyam today said acting on a tip-off, the police launched a drive from October 10 onwards and seized 18 mobile phones from the prisoners.

Mr Radhesyam said it was suspected that the militants were continuing their works with the help of cellphones from the prison.

Meanwhile, four ultras of different outfits were nabbed by police and troops during the past 24 hours in separate incidents, the SP informed.

Altogether two Kangleipak Communist Party(KCP) cadres, identified as Laishram Shanta and Hijam Bishorjit, were arrested yesterday, he said, adding one 9 mm pistol marked as China Auto Pistol 17344 with four live rounds was also recovered.

Mr Radhesyam said both were involved in the cases of extortion.

In yet another incident, a combined team of Imphal East police commandos and 32 Assam Rifles personnel yesterday launched a joint operation at at Khongman Mangjil and apprehended a United National Liberation Front (UNLF) rebel, identified as Tourangbam Naopa.

Another Kangleipak Communist Party militant was nabbed by Imphal East police today, the SP further informed.
