Mizoram setups country's first'Youth Commission'
Aizawl, Oct 13 (UNI) Mizoram has emerged as the pioneer in the country to constitute a youth commission.
Inaugurating the commission office at the old Secretariat here today, Chief Minister Zoramthanga said the new office might be a small step from administrative point of view but a giant leap for the entire nation.
He added that in materialising the much-awaited Youth Commission, they have achieved what no other state and even the Centre could achieve.
''With no predecessors in the country, the Mizoram Youth Commission is a totally brand new and a 'made-in-Mizoram' concept,'' he stated.
For a small state like Mizoram constituting youth commission was a daredevil move, he opined asserting sooner or later, all other states will follow the concept.
The proposal for the Commission was passed as an Act by the state legislature and later approved by the Cabinet. It primarily aims at facilitating employment opportunities within and outside the country for the Mizoram youths. It will also promote film, music, sports, IT and fashion industries in the state to generate employments, the officials said.
The Commission started functioning from today with Mr Rotluanga, a civil servant, as secretary.
