Kandhamal peaceful; Dharna to arrest Laxmanananda killer
Bhubaneswar, Oct 13 (UNI) The situation in trouble-torn Kandhamal district was peaceful today with no untoward incident reported from anywhere during the last 24 hours.
However, the night curfew clamped in the nine sensitive police stations would be in force as a precautionary measure, official sources said.
The activists of Laxamanananda Saraswati Shradhanjali Samiti (LSSS) today held a dharna in front of the state police headquarters at Cuttack demanding the immediate arrest of the killers of Swamiji.
The Samiti members regretted that though more than 50 days had passed, the police had failed to arrest the killers and the conspirators.
Meanwhile, the dharna, in front of the state Assembly by the LSSS members demanding the arrest of the guilty, entered its second day today. The Samiti members have resolved to continue their dharna till October 22.
The dawn to dusk bandh called by the CPI(ML), CPI(ML)Liberation, CPI(ML) new democracy, Samajwadi Jana Parishad and SUCI in Kandhmal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada and Koraput districts evoked little response and passed of peacefully.
The bandh was observed in protest against rape, murder, house burning and arson by the communal forces in the strife-torn Kandhmal district over last one month.
Reports received here today said at some places the business establishments were closed and vehicles were off the road as the bandh supporters blocked the road communication in few places.
