First India-Australia Test match ends in a draw

By Staff

Bangalore, Oct 13 : The first Test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy ended in a draw at M Chinnaswamy stadium here today.

Chasing 299 runs on the last day of the Test match, Team India managed 177/4 when umpires took of the bails after bad light made visibility near impossible.

Australia earlier declared their innings at 228/6. Zaheer Khan was adjudged Man of the Match for his match turning performances with both bat and ball.

However the biggest disappointment of the day came when Sachin Tendulkar came perilously close to Brian Lara's world record but was out with the record being just 15 runs away.

VVS Laxman (42) and Sourav Ganguly (26) were the unbeaten batsmen at the crease.

Both the teams now move to Mohali, where second Test match will begin on Friday.

Brief Scores:

Australia: 430 all out and 228 for 6 declared

India: 360 all out and 165 for four in 67 overs. (Sachin Tendulkar 49, VVS Laxman not out 41; Stuart Clark 1/12, Brett Lee 1/26).
