Curfew relaxed in MP town; 50 nabbed
Burhanpur, MP, Oct 13 (UNI) Curfew was relaxed for a total four hours today in this communal violence-affected district town.
Inspector-General of Police (Indore Range) Anil Kumar said that house-to-house searches here and in surrounding villages yielded petrol bombs and knives at some places. Fifty arrests were executed today taking the total number to 200. All the accused were incarcerated at Khandwa district town.
The curfew relaxation, only for women, was in a couple of two-hour phases from 0800-1000 hrs and 1500-1700 hrs. Essential commodities were purchased during the periods.
''The situation is improving and peace prevailed during the relaxation. A similar relaxation is being considered for tomorrow,'' said District Collector Carolene Khongwar Deshmukh.
Nine persons were killed here on Friday and about 30 injured.
