Tashkent, Oct 13 (UNI) India's Rohan Bopanna outplayed Michael Kohlmann of Germany 6-3, 6-7 (7-3), 6-3 to make it to the main draw of the 125,000 dollar Tashkent Challenger here.
''I'm happy to make it to qualify in the singles event and hope to do better this week,'' Bopanna said after the 2 hour 15 minute tussle.
Bopanna made it to the singles main draw for the first time after the Newport event where he reached the quarterfinals.
''I was close to making it to the main draw Thailand Open but lost in the final round qualifying two weeks ago,'' he said.
In the first round, Bopanna will take on Ilia Marchenko of Ukraine.
If he reaches the second round, the Indian is expected to take on the winner of the match between top seed Yen Hsun Lu and former world number 1 junior Kristian Pless of Denmark.
Naom Okun of Israel, Oliver Marach of Austria and Nathan Thompson of US won in contrasting styles to make it to the main draw of the event.
