Australia sets 299-run target for India

By Staff

Bangalore, Oct 13 (UNI) Australia made a sporting declaration at 228 for six in their second innings to set a 299-runs target for India to be made in 89 overs on the final day of the opening Test of the four-match series for the Border-Gavaskar trophy being played at the M Chinnaswamy stadium here today.

The visitors, who resumed at the overnight score of 193 for five, added 35 runs, losing the wicket of Shane Watson before Ponting made the declaration. The all-rounder was clean bowled by speedstar Ishant Sharma.

Watson and wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin added exactly 100 runs for the sixth wicket, which included 35 runs today. This partnership had pulled Australia out of trouble after they were 128 for five at one stage yesterday.

Haddin (35) and Cameron White (18) remained unbeaten.

India has to score 299 run for victory in a minimum of 89 overs to be bowled in the remaining period of the final day today.
