Indians advance to second round on opening day

Pune, Oct 12 (UNI) Second seed Yuki Bhambri and Poojashree Venkatesha advanced into the second round of the singles event in their respective categories as both the Indians were given byes in the opening round of the Commonwealth Youth Games here today.

Yuki will have an easy second round match as he will take on an unseeded Paul Wilson of Malaysia.

In the girls' section, second seed Poojashree will face Kim Carruthers of Samoa tomorrow, while another Indian in the fray, Kyra Shroff will take on Zwakele Zwane of Switzerland after she too was handed a bye in the first round.

On the opening day of the Games, no major upset was made and most of the matches were pretty one-sided.

Top seed Emmanuel Sunday of Nigeria was also given an entry into the second round with a bye and will face Nicholas Thibeault of Guernsey who beat Sam Taylor 6-0, 6-0 in the boys singles today.
