High quality banana variety developed in Karnal lab
Karnal, Oct 12 (UNI) Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory at Uchani, here has developed a high-quality plant of banana, which is expected to boost banana production in Haryana.
A spokesman of the Horticulture Department said today that the Lab had developed about 30,000 plants of banana by tissue culture technique which were being sold to the farmers for plantation.
With this, the banana production would commence in Haryana in a big way like in other states.
The State Government had put a target to produce one lakh plants of banana for farmers in the next season.
He said that the farmers in the State had shown a keen interest in the new banana crop.
During the last year the farmers of Kurukshetra, Karnal, Yamunanagar, Rohtak and Rewari districts had shown their interest in buying banana plants at large scale.
He said that the main objective of this Laboratory was to conduct research on plants like potato and banana and also to increase the quality of the plants. It was also involved in popularising the tissue culture technology among the farmers.
Earlier, successful research had been conducted on Kufri Badhshah and Pukhraj varieties of Potato which were brought from Central Research Center, Shimla, he said.
He said that in appreciation of the achievment made by the laboratory, the Ambassdor of Israel had assured his full cooperation for various projects in the State.
