Gajanan Chavan is president of District Courts Bar Asso
Thane, Oct 12 (UNI) Mr Gajanan Chavan, a prominent city advocate, was today re-elected president of the Thane District Courts Bar Association.
Chavan defeated his only rival Vijay Sali, by a margin of over 150 votes. While Chavan amassed 511 votes, Sali could get only 359 votes.
The counting of votes and missing of three ballots kept the situation charged for hours during the polls yesterday. Of the 991 votes polled, 899 were valid and only 896 could be accounted and the fate of three ballots is still a mystery.
The other office bearers include Yeshwant Mhaskar as the vice president, Madan Thakur as secretary, Sunil Lasane and Hema Deshmukh as joint secretaries and Sudhakar Pawar as the treasurer.
The Executive Committee members are Balchandra Kadu, Santosh Agre, Sameer Deshpande, Sujata Mhatre and Prakash Poojari.
In the last 26 years of history of the Bar, this is the first and highest lead taken by any president, otherwise most of the times the lead was never more than single digit and even less than five.
