Churchill Brothers and United SC share a point each in 0-0 tie

By Staff

Kolkata, Oct 12 (UNI) In a lacklustre game Churchill Brothers and United SC were locked in a barren tie and shared one point each at their Round 3 outing of the 2nd ONGC I-League here tonight.

Former India-International stopper back Subrata Bhattacharjee emerged as successful coach to snatch a point from Goa's soccer giants as mercural striker Odafa Okolie was made virtually an impotent at Vidyasagar Stadium, Barasat, some 25 kms from here.

Man marking was his key word to man-of-the-match Shehashis Chakraborty, who like a sticking bug followed Odafa whereever the Nigerian ran and made him stingless for the night.

Odafa, a top scorer with 22 goals in last edition, had a chance in 10th minute but Hardeep Saini's timely intervention made the foreigner inept to take a shot on the ball.

In fact neither Arindam Bhattacharjee, Churchill's golie, nor Ravi Kanta, his counterpart, had much to worry barring one or two near scoring chances that came.

After tonight's performance Churchill Brothers returned with four points from two mathces and United Sc with as many points, but from three outings.

Earlier, the Goa outfit in the operner defeated Mahindra United 2-1 at home and debutant United SC lost to East Bengal 1-3 and won 3-1 against Jeepmen.

Bhattacharjee had also praise for Louis Ebami and Daniel Ayeni to thwart the offensive from the visitors.

A dejected Zoran Djordjevic said his boys could not make much move but added this was the game of football where anything could happen.
