Policy to check alcohol consumption on anvil: Ramadoss
Chennai, Oct 11 (UNI) After the ban on smoking at public places, next on the agenda for Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss is alcohol.
Participating in a seminar here today on 'Alcohol Control Policy,' organised by Pasumai Thayagam, the apolitical outfit of the PMK, he said the Centre would soon unveil a national policy in this regard.
Observing alcohol as the mother of all health problems, Dr Ramadoss said the Health Ministry would bring a policy to control alcohol consumption.
While appealing to all States to impose total prohibition, he took a dig at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and said, ''Don't give freebies to people, try to introduce total prohibition in the State.'' He, however, admitted that enforcing total prohibition was a State subject and the Centre could not do much in this regard.
If the PMK came to power in the State, it's first order would be to enforce total prohibition, he claimed.
