NE insurgency problem calms down : Singh
Shillong, Oct 11 (UNI) General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command Lt Gen V K Singh today said the counter-insurgency operation against the insurgents in the North Eastern states will continue even as the overall insurgency problem in the region had relatively calmed down.
'' We will still carry out our own operation to ensure that no anti-national element operates in our soil, '' Lt Gen Singh told reporters on the sidelines the two-day 2nd Eastern Command Rowing Regatta at Umiam Lakehere.
The GOC-in-C, however, said the overall situation had markedly improved barring in Manipur where the government was toiling hard to bring peace.
'' The situation in Nagaland has improved, except the factional clashes between the Naga insurgents. In Tripura and Assam, too, the situation has also improved following the spate of surrender's, '' Lt Gen Singh said.
When asked about the some sections of ULFA refusing to come overground due to the Army's recent unilateral action, the GOC-in-C said, '' Our focus in going for operation does not mean that we are against the peace process. '' He stated that the Army like elsewhere was working in total synergy with the state government to bring peace in Assam.
