Shillong, Oct 11 (UNI) Meghalaya police have detained one person, suspected to be a member of Bangladesh-based Islamic terror group Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI).
Police said here today Habibur Rehman was detained by state police from Bholaganj village in East Khasi Hills district bordering Bangladesh.
''We are still interrogating him to ascertain his identity, background and his place of origin,'' police stated.
However, sources in the state police headquarters here claimed that several incriminating documents were seized from the possession of the detained person.
Earlier, the Inspector General of BSF in-charge Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland Frontier, P K Mishra, admitted the presence of Bangladesh-based HuJI militants, even as the Additional Director of Intelligence Bureau, Ajit Lal, claimed Islamic terror groups in Bangladesh were making a staging point to cross over to the North East to create a reign of terror.
