Ganguly denies reports of giving interview to Bengali daily

By Staff

Bangalore, Oct 11 (UNI) In a volte face, former Indian captain Saurav Ganguly today denied the reports of giving an interview to a Bengali daily recently in which he reportedly lashed out at the national selectors for treating him as a 'sacrificial goat', which led to his hasty retirement.

''Report quoting my interview in a Bengaly daily, published in various newspapers is false. I have not given any interview of that kind to any one and hopefully also in the future,'' Ganguly said in a statement.

He also requested the press to clarify with him before news from 'other sources'.

The daily had reported quoting Ganguly that the southpaw was no more ready to be a sacrificial goat all the time and retire early instead of playing at selector's mercy.

Commenting on Ganguly's interview, former selector Dilip Vengsarkar had refused to react at this juncture, saying that it was not the right time as India was in the middle of a test series. He would do so after the series was over, he was quoted as saying.
