By Staff

Kannur, Oct 11 (UNI) For M C Devaanadhan (41) of Muzhupillangad near Thalassery, cricket coaching is tougher than carrying vegetables over his head.

Mr Devaanandhan is a qualified 'O-level' coach and awaiting the results of 'A-level' test conducted by Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI).

Devaanadhan does his duty at Thalassery vegetable market from early morning to 1400 hours. After taking his bath and lunch, he moves to the Thalassery municipal stadium to provide tips to the young cricket aspirants.

The coach also helps top players to prepare the pitch. He also played hockey for three years at the district level. He was the official coach of Kannur District Cricket Association(KDCA) and one of the selectors of the Kannur team and the Secretary of Thalassery Cricket Club (TCC).

Since 2005, Mr Devaanadhan was designated as the selector of under-13,15,17,19,22 categories for the district team.

He said a three-tier selection process was necessary for a good team. The TCC team selected by him, was the champion of the A-Division League since 17 years. TCC also won the inter-zone tournament for under-22 held at Kozhikode.

Mr Devaanadhan studied only up to sixth standard, but his childhood difficulties and poverty did not dampen his love for the game.
