Mumbai: 3 killed, 43 injured in seperate mishaps

Mumbai, Oct 11: At least three people were killed and 43 others, including a women, injured in three separate accidents in the city, during the last 24 hours.

In the first accident, a group of 23 people were travelling in a tempo to attend the funeral of a relative at Panvel yesterday, when driver of the tempo lost control over the vehicle and collided with a stationary truck on Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link road, resulting in the death of a woman on the spot and injuring 22 others.

The deceased was identified as Halima Ahmed Shaikh (60) and all the victims were occupants of the tempo. Among the injured, three sustainted serious injuries and were admitted in Rajawadi Hospital, police said here today.

Driver of the tempo is at large, they added.

In the second incident at the western suburb of Goregaon, cleaner of a lorry was sleeping under the vehicle. He was run over by vehicle when the driver started it. The deceased was identified as Devendra Kamble (19), police said.

The third accident occurred at Cotton Green cross level in the eastern suburb of the city yesterday, when driver of a mini bus, carrying 22 passengers, tried to overtake a vehicle. Of them, one person was killed and the others suffered injuries, police said.

The deceased was identified as Dilip Modi (55) and the injured were admitted to a private hospital, though most of them were allowed to go home after first aid, police added.
