Two Gurgaon villages to get 'Nirmal Gram Puruskar'

Gurgaon, Oct 10 (UNI) Two villages of Gurgaon district would be awarded the 'Nirmal Gram Puruskar' by President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil at a national-level function at Mahabir Stadium of Hisar on October 17.

Both these two villages, Gugana of Farrukhnagar block and Lohtaki of Sohna block, have woman Sarpanches, Deputy Commissioner Deepti Umashankar said here today.

Bimla Devi, Sarpanch of Gugana and Premwati, Sarpanch of Lohtaki would receive the award from the President, which included a certificate in recognition of these villages becoming free from traditional open-defecation practice and for the overall cleanliness.

More than 600 panchayats would be honoured at this national level function.

In Gugana, three community toilets have been constructed and 28 BPL families of the village were provided with financial help of Rs 1200 each for constructing toilets in their houses.

Similarly, 27 such families in Lohtaki were provided financial help for construction of toilets in their houses.

Both sarpanches have already been felicitated by the district administration at the state level Independence Day function in recognition of their commendable services for the development of their villages.
