Tension grips UP district during end of Durga Puja celebrations
Lucknow, Oct 10 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Sonwa area of Shrawasti district of Uttar Pradesh after a procession taking the idol of Goddess Durga for immersion entered a restricted route today.
The incident occurred after the procession traversed through the restricted route during the end of the Durga Puja celebrations, police said.
However, the members of another community opposed this and the two groups pelted stones at each other.
Additonal Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Circle Officer (CO), were also wounded in the stone pelting, when they attempted to pacify the two sides.
Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police (ADG) (Law and Order) Brijlal said the situation has been brought under control and ceremony of Her idol immersion performed.
One company PAC has also been deployed on the spot for maintenance of peace, the cop added.
Senior officials, including District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) have reached the spot.
