New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi today announced that Pakistan's newly-crowned Twenty20 champions Sialkot Stallions will be a part of the inaugural Champions League to be held in December.
Sialkot, led by Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, had notched up a seven-wicket victory in the final of Pakistan's national T20 tournament over Shahid Afridi-led Karachi Dolphins at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Wednesday.
They thus became the eighth team to qualify for the Champions leauge which will be contested by the best teams of the domestic Twenty20 tournaments in various nations.
''The participation of Sialkot Stallions in the inaugural Champions Twenty20 League makes the tournament complete in all respects. We are very happy to have Sialkot Stallions among the participating teams. The Pakistani team, led by Shoaib Malik, will make the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 more competitive and interesting,'' Modi, who is also the Chairman of the Champions League, said in a statement.
Sialkot Stallions will join two teams each from India, Australia, South Africa and England's Middlesex in the eight-team competition.
The 10-day Champions League, which will follow a football-style format, will be played at Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore from December 3 to 10.
The teams are: Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings (India), Western Australia Warriors and Victoria Bushrangers (Australia), Titans and Dolphins (South Africa), Sialkot Stallions (Pakistan) and Middlesex (England).
