Kozhikode, Oct 10 (UNI) The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Samyumktha Samithy (SCSTSS), an umbrella organisation of about 30-odd Dalit and Backward Class outfits in Kerala, today said it will spearhead a state-wide agitation demanding, among other things, second land reforms in the State.
Talking to newspersons here, Organising Committee Convenor Punnala Sreekumar said activists from all parts of the State will lay seige to the State Secretariat and all District Collectorates on November 15 as part of the agitation.
In order to create awareness among the people about the need for allocation of at least one acre land to landless poor, the organisation was embarking on a state-wide jatha from Kasargod this evening.
About two million people were expected to participate in the jatha, which will be conclude at Neyyattinkara in the State capital Thiruvanthapuram on November 5.
The other demands include a comprehensive development package for SC/STs, early implementation of Adivasi Agreement, appointments to aided educational institutions through the Public Service Commission, higher education for SC/STs and loan waiver schemes.
