Raja says no favouritism in 2G allocation, ready for probe
Chennai, Oct 10 (UNI) Refuting charges of favouritism shown to Swan Telecom in 2G spectrum allotment, Union IT and Communications Minister A Raja today said he was prepared to face any kind of probe in the issue.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the charges were aimed at tarnishing his image and in turn, cause a bad name to DMK and its President M Karunanidhi.
''Where did we err?'' he asked and categorically stated the allocation (of spectrum) was based on rules laid out by the TRAI, on first-cum-first-serve basis.
''If there is any favouritism in the allotment, I am ready for any kind of probe,'' he added.
''While a section of the media had carried the rejoinder, issued by me denying the charges, another section did not publish it and in turn, launched a mudslinging campaign with a view to tarnishing the image of Mr Karunanidhi,'' he charged.
Mr Raja said if the charges were proved, the Telecom Ministry would terminate the licence allotted to SWAN.
''We are willing to terminate the licence given to SWAN if the charges of favouritism are proved,'' he said.
