Pune, Oct 10 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil arrived here by special aircraft this evening for a three-day visit to the cultural capital of Maharashtra.
During her three-day programme, the President will attend the centenary birth celebrations of Sant Tukaram at Dehu and the Platinum Jubilee celebration of ''Sadhana'' weekly at Balgandhar Rang Mandir here on October 11. The President will inaugurate the Commonwealth Youth Games at Balewadi on October 12.
Ms Patil will also visit Gawadewai village in Ambegaon Taluka near Manchar on Pune-Nasik Highway, which has bagged the Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra award, Nirmal Gram Puraskar and Mahatama Gandhi Tantamukta Abhiyan Award -- for various developmental projects like vermicompost, percolation tanks and types of bunds.
The President will interact with a few people who have returned to the village from the city, Mohan Dharia, President of Vanrai, a city-based NGO told UNI here today.
Ms Patil is also expected to visit the village school's Computer Laboratory, interact with self-help groups and visit the Gram Panchayat office.
The President was today received by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, city Commissioner of Police Satyapal Singh and Mohan Dharia.
