Kurukshetra, Oct 10 (UNI) Teachers of Kurukshetra University today staged a dharna before the office of the vice chancellor after expiry of the 48 hours ultimatum given to the KU authorities to nab the alleged assailants who had injured four teachers within a month in incidents that took place in the campus.
Demanding safety and security in the campus the teachers boycotted the classes and raising slogans in support of their demands marched to the office of the VC and sat on dharna for about two hours.
The non-teaching employees association as well as the members of the Students Federation of India joined the teachers' agitation and sat on dharna.
Kurukshetra University Teachers Association president professor OP Gahlawat warned the authorities that if the culprits were not put behind the bar soon, the teachers will keep their work suspended till then. The KU VC was not available in his office.
On October 7, some youths with their faces covered had pounced upon a teacher of tourism and management of the university college in the campus. Before that Dr ML Saini the chief security officer and Dr Rajpal Singh of Ancient History department were also assaulted by masked youths. A lady librarian was also roughed up by unidentified youths few days back when she demanded identity cards while they were trying to force their entry into the library.
