Hyderabad, Oct 10 (UNI) With a view to promoting the habit of washing hands with soap, the first-ever Global Hand Wash Day (GHWD) will be celebrated on October 15 all over the world.
A release here today said according to London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, washing hands with soap and water reduces the incidence of diarrhoea by 47 per cent, which kills almost two million children every year, making it the second leading killer of children worldwide.
One out of every five diarrhoea victims worldwide is an Indian, the release said.
The GHWD, an initiative by the Public-Private Partnership for Hand Washing (PPPHW), would create awareness among millions of people in more than 20 countries across five continents on the need to wash their hands with soap.
