Geelani put under house arrest, leaving for Delhi on Sunday

Srinagar, Oct 10 (UNI) Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani was today again put under house arrest to prevent him from attending processions.

However, he is leaving for Delhi on Sunday for undergoing treatment in Escorts hospital.

Official sources said Mr Geelani was put under house arrest as a precautionary measure.

A spokesman for the HC told UNI that Mr Geelani was about to leave his Hyderpora residence for Hamza Masjid, Koker Bazar, adjacent to the Lal Chowk, when a large number of security force reached there this afternoon.

He was later informed that he had been put under house and he couldnot leave till further orders.

However, the Majlis Shoura of breakaway Hurriyat spokesman said Mr Geelani was leaving for the national capital on Sunday where he would undergo surgery for replacement of pace-maker in Escorts hospital.

Mr Geelani was admitted to SKIMS here on October 5 where doctors advised him to undergo pace-maker replacement in Delhi.

Mr Ghulam Nabi Sumbji has been named as acting chairman of the HC in the absence of Mr Geelani, he said.
