Nashik, Oct 10: Hospital and clinics in the district remained closed as medical practitioners here observed a bandh on Friday, Oct 10 supporting the state-wide agitation against attacks on doctors.
As many as 300 doctors, wearing black ribbon, from all medical faculties participated in the silent morcha taken out on the occasion. Though the morcha was organised by doctor cell of NCP, doctors of the Shiv Sena, BJP and Congress cells also participated in the march.
The agitation also received support from doctors working in government establishments. Organisations such as District unit of Indian Medical Association, Nashik Surgical Society, Family Physicians Association and General Practitioners Association participated in the bandh and the protest march.
NCP MLC Dr Vasant Pawar, Congress MLA Dr Shobha Bachhav and Centre of Indian Trade Unions leader Dr D L Karad led the silent march, which began from Hutatma Chowk and reached the district collectorate.
An Act, which will treat the attack on doctors and medical establishments as a cognizable and non-bailable crime was the main demand of the participant doctors. A memorandum was also submitted to district collector S Chokkalingam on the occasion.
However, to avoid the inconvenience to patients emergency service were on at all places.
