Patna, Oct 10 (UNI) Altogether nine people drowned in separate boat mishaps in Bihar during the past 24 hours, official sources today said.
Four people drowned in Saharsa, three children were washed away in Muzaffarpur, while two people met a watery grave in Madhepura district.
A report from Saharsa said four of a family, including a newly wed woman, drowned when a boat ferrying six people capsized midstream in Parsadhar river near Harahari village of Banwanithari block in Saharsa yesterday.
Sub-divisional officer of Simribakhtiyarpur Radheshyam Sah said the boat got trapped in high currents and capsized.
Two children were saved, while the bodies of the four victims were still missing. Divers had been pressed into service to trace the bodies.
The ill-fated boat was returning from Salkhua village, Mr Sah added.
A report from Muzaffarpur said three kids died when a boat, ferrying 20 people, overturned on the banks of Bagmati at Hathhiyagaon ghat under Minapur police station in Muzaffarpur last night.
Police said the people had boarded the boat at Hathiya village after enjoying Dussehra festival. The boat lost balance and overturned following which three children drowned. The others swam to safety, police added.
The body of a child had been fished out while the other two remained traceless. Divers had been pressed into service. The victims belonged to Bhadaulia village.
Another report from Madhepura said two people drowned when a boat ferrying 15 people lost balance and overturned in the flood water at Bajrahagosi ghat under Alamnagar block yesterday. Kameshwar Singh (7) and Mantu Das (18) drownned while the rest swam to safety.
