All district libraries to be computerised in Haryana

Chandigarh, Oct 10 (UNI) The Haryana Government has decided to computerise all the district level libraries and link the book lending facility in these libraries.

This announcement was made by Chief Secretary Dharam Vir while inaugurated the automated library system, established with the help of e-Grathalaya software developed by National Informatics Centre at the library of the Haryana Civil Secretariat here.

The software provides all kinds of features required to automate the in-house activities as well as library services. The library web OPAC is a web based user interface to access the library catalogue for searching. The web OPAC also provides the secured way of assessing number specific information from the library.

The Chief Secretary informed that the information of new arrival of books was now available on net at the website of the library, web1.hry.nic.in/library. Each member could see the status of his or her library account on this site, reserve books on the internet and send requisitions for the purchase of books at e-mail address of the library [email protected].

Mr Dharam Vir also announced to computerise all the file records of government offices, about 85,000 in number, for easy assess and bring more transparency in the functioning of government departments.

The facility of the library of Haryana Civil Secretariat which was presently being availed by the staff of the Secretariat right from class IV upto the level of senior most officers would also be extended to the media persons and retired employees a nominal fee, he added.

He said that to streamline the lending facility and ensure timely return of the books, the defaulters would be charged Rs two per day for returning books after due date.
