New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) A large number of activists from various NGOs and social organisations today staged a 72-hour fast here against the attacks on the minority community in Orissa.

They criticised the NDA government, especially the main ally BJP, for its failure to use constitutional provisions to protect the minorities and give punishment to the culprits.

''Gandhi believed that, eye for an eye will make the whole nation blind, but the politics of hate is now mobilising thousands blindly against their fellow citizens,'' a Matu Jan Sangathan spokesmen said, adding ''Politicians have no issue left so they are utilising this violence to win the election.'' Everyone is raising the question of communalism and anti-communalism but no one raise the real issue of degradation like inflation and unemployment, the spokesman said.

They demand from the government that all forms of violence must be stopped immediately and a favourable environment must be ensured to allow those affected to return to their homes and practise the religion of their choice.
