Kakinada, Oct 9 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Rajaka (washermen community) United Front (RUF) has appealed to the State and Central Governments to accord SC status to the Rajakas based on their occupation excluding them from the list of Backward Classes.
Talking to newspersons here today the RUF convenor Gandham Chandrarao said in 17 states Rajakas were enjoying SC's status but in Andhra Pradesh they were included in BC A' group and hence lagging behind in development.
Addition of some more castes in the BC's list would further deprive them of the fruits of reservation, he added.
Hence, he said, the RUF was now on agitational path to bring attention of the government on the continued injustice being meted out to the Rajakas and prevail on the government to include them in the list of scheduled castes.
Mr Chandarrao said the RUF, as a part of the agitation would organise Maha Dharna 'programme in Indira park at Hyderabad on November 11 in which large number of Rajakas from all parts of the state would participate.
If the government did not concede their demand of according SC's status, they would launch direct action such as going on statewide indefinite strike, stopping washing of clothes, he warned and said the RUF's demand ncluded making applicable the SC/ ST atrocities act to Rajakas which is pending with the government, introduction of free medical insurance replacing the existing accident insurance scheme and construction of special ashram schools for the Rajaka's children in all the districts and freeing them from the dhobi ghats.
