Chennai, Oct 9: Actor-Politician and Founder-President of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), Mr Vijayakanth, today condemned attacks on places of worship in Tamil Nadu and urged the State government to take stern action against the culprits.
In a statement here, he said the recent attacks on minority institutions were a cause for worry and posed grave threat to communal amity and harmony, being preserved in the State for many years.
As people of different religions were living as brothers and sisters in the State, the DMK Government should nip in the bud attempts to whip up communal passions.
Attacks on Minorities and places of worship, spread like wildfire in Orissa, Karnataka and Maharashtra in the absence of preventive measures, he pointed out and wanted the DMK Government to take all steps to prevent such incidents.
Mr Vijayakanth said the police should be given a free hand to deal with the culprits and the government should not try to appease any section of people keeping political interest in mind, he said.
The police should also act in a non-partisan manner when they dealt with miscreants and anti-social elements who tried to disturb peace and communal harmony, he said.
Mr Vijayakanth said the government should identify sensitive areas and post adequate police bandobust to avoid any untoward incident.
