Lucknow, Oct 9 (UNI) Amid growing resentment among Muslims in the wake of frequent police raids in Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today announced to hold a Muslim conference here on October 13.
The UP CM made this announcement in the presence of her cabinet colleagues, who had gathered at her official residence to pay tribute to BSP ideologue late Kashiram on his second death anniversary.
The conference is being seen in political circle as an attempt to placate the minority community. The problem of Muslims would be discussed in the conference.
It is the second attempt of the BSP supremo to have dialogue with the Muslim as in July last she had invited prominent shia and sunni cleric to discuss their problems. In fact on June 5, she had apposed the proposed nuke deal terming it 'anti-Muslim.' According to political observers, the recent stern view of the Samajwadi Party againt Batla House police encounter in Delhi and raids in Azamgarh dented BSP's plans to woo the minority community.
The Muslim conference, the first of its kind by the BSP government in UP, would be an attempt to win back minority support ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
