Tashkent, Oct 9 (UNI) The Indian colts recorded a solitary goal win over Indonesia in their final Group B match of the AFC U-16 Championship here.
With this win, India recorded its first victory in the tournament and finished third in the Group with three points. They had lost their earlier matches to Korea Republic (2-5 ) and Syria (0-3).
In the crucial encounter at the MHSK Stadium yesterday, striker Manandeep headed in the winner for India off a cross from Ashish Chhetri in the 24th minute.
India started off on a positive note with at least four good moves in the first half. The Indians were on the attack as early as the fourth minute when Tirathankar Sarkar passed on to Fela but his right footer went high over the cross bar.
Again in the seventh minute, Mannandeep passed on to Fela but his attempt went just wide of the left upright. Seven minutes before half time, Tirathankar made a good move from the left flank and passed the ball inside the box to Fela who headed over the bar.
India could have increased the lead in the 62nd minute when Fela failed to beat the Indonesian custodian.
Goalkeeper Jayanta Paul once again stood like a solid rock in front of waves of attack by the Indonesians in the second half, especially a brilliant save against Delton Stevano in the 62nd minute which denied Indonesia the much needed equaliser.
