Ludhiana, Oct 9 (UNI) Every year during the festive season there is generally an enhanced demand for flowers particular of marigold which is used for 'puja' in temples, gurdwaras and in homes.
There is good news for devotees and for 'pujaris' as Punjab is heading for a bumper marigold harvest this year.
According to Punjab Agricultural University's (PAUs), Head department of Landscaping and Floriculture, Dr Ramesh Kumar Sadavarti said that despite heavy rains during the monsoons this year the marigold is going to bloom in Punjab. Dr Sadavarti said that farmers who transplanted marigold in the first week of July, as recommended by PAU experts, will be getting a good crop.
The demand for marigold and other flowers goes up from Dussehra upto Lohri.
Besides marigold, tube rose and loose rose petals are the flowers that are in demand at this time of the yeare.
Dr Sadavarti said that the prevailing time was apt for pruning of roses, as these flowers come to bloom nearly seven weeks after pruning. He further said that the bushes of 'desi' rose are in bloom to provide fragrant rose petals for the festive season. UNI HS MMS1715
