Dussehra celebrated with gaiety in Punjab, Haryana, HP
Chandigarh, Oct 9 (UNI) The Dusshera festivities came to an end this evening in the North West with the effigies of the 10-headed Ravana, his brother Kumbhkarna and son, Meghnad going up in flames at several places in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and the Union territory of Chandigarh.
The day also celebrated as Vijay Dashmi, marks the victory of good over evil.
The main function at Chandigarh was held at the Sector-17 Praade ground where a large number of people including VIPs were present to see the three effigies go up in flames. Similar effigies were also set ablaze in other parts of the UT.
In Amritsar, the main function was held at the traditional Goal Bagh grounds where the effigies of the demons were set ablaze.
Earlier in the day people from all walks of life, including followers of all religions exchanged greetings on the occasion with Hindu friends and relatives. A large number of devotees also offered prayers at temples in the three states.
