Unsuccessful attempt to loot bank van employee killed

Ferozepur, Oct 8 (UNI) Four armed robbers made an unsuccessful attempt to loot Rs 3 crore from a ICICI Bank van near Mange Khan village under the Zera Police station of the district this evening.

Police sources said robbers opened fire on the five-member bank staff at a Dhaba near the village, killing one person and injuring two others. The bank employee were taking tea when the robbers, who came in a car opened fire on them.

The deceased was identified as Ramji Dass, who died on the spot.The injured Avtar Singh and Chaman Lal were later taken to the Faridkot Medical College Hospital.

Police offical said the two bank employes who managed to flee during the shooting were Mahesh Kumar and Gurwinder Singh.

The four robbers the tried to open the lock of the bank van but failed to do so, after which they fled from the scene as a numbers of people from the village arrived at the Dhaba.

The van was transporting the cash from Moga to Ferzepur.It was not yet known whether any of the five employees of the bank were armed or not. Police official maintain that they had no information that van was ferrying such a huge amount.

The bank had clearly violated security norms, as it should have given advance information to the police while transporting cash from one bank to the other, officials here said. A case had been registered and special team have been found to trace the culprits.
