Srinagar, Oct 8 (UNI) Expressing serious concern over the alleged use of pig fat in some food products, the Valley Citizen Council (VCC) has urged the health department in Jammu and Kashmir to come out with the truth.
The pig fat, allegedly being used in Chocolate, Maggi and Noodles was not only hazardous to health, but its use was prohibited in Islam, General Secretary of the VCC Imdad Saqi said in a letter to the Commissioner- Secretary Health and Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, here today.
Mr Saqi wanted to know about the action taken by the government on a letter written by the Director General (DG) of Health services, New Delhi to all food (health) authorities of States and UTs on July 31 this year.
The DG has directed the states and UTS to keep a strict vigil on the quality of these food items and take action against the offenders where samples were found not conforming to the provisions of the PFA Act 1954 and Rule 1955.
Mr Saqi wanted to know about the findings of samples of these items and action taken against the offenders.
