Mumbai rave party raid: 13 of 15 get bail

{image-Rave party raid_08102008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Mumabai, Oct 8: The anti-narcotics cell of the Mumbai police arrested six more people in connection with the alleged drug bust at a private party in a Juhu pub on Sunday, Oct 5. On Tuesday, Oct 7 they were produced before a metropolitan magistrate along with the nine others who were arrested earlier from the pub. The court granted bail to 13 of them while two were remanded to police custody till October 13.

The police found very less quantity of drugs with the accused and court granted them bail. "We found only small quantity of ecstasy and opium with the accused who were granted bail," an official said. Advocate Rizwan Merchant, appearing on behalf of a few accused, said, "The court also issued a show-cause notice to the police, as the copy of panchnama was not given to us on time despite several reminders." On Sunday, Oct 5 the police barged into the Juhu pub, Bombay 72 Degrees, and picked up 240 youngsters on suspicion of 'doing drugs". Nine of them, including an Israeli national Ben Hyun Shae Simon, were arrested for peddling and distributing narcotic substances, while the rest were asked to go in for a urine and blood sample test.

Among those arrested is Rahul Karmakar, who has a previous record in a narcotics case. The court remanded Rahul and Simon to police custody after the police recovered large quantities of LSD drops along with other drugs from their possession.

“We have also arrested one Anuradha Sanyal for peddling drugs. She is doing her graduation from Pune and we have information that she is close to a few drug peddlers active in Mumbai and Pune,"" an officer said.

The police suspect that Karmakar and Simon might be part of a larger gang active in various cities. “Simon has admitted to us that he is acquainted with one of the well-known drug suppliers from Goa,"" an officer said.

According to the police, the party had been held by private organisers who took the help of social networking sites to invite youngsters and professional from other cities like Pune and Delhi.
