Prosecution plea seeking cancellation of Hasina's bail rejected
Mumbai, Oct 8 (UNI) The prosecution today suffered a setback with the City Civil and Session Court rejecting their plea for cancellation of the Anticipatory Bail granted to Hasina Parkar, sister of fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar last year, in an extortion case.
The City Civil and Sessions Court Principal Judge T V Nalawade today rejected the petition of state government, seeking the cancellation of anticipatory bail of Ms Parkar, which was granted by a lower court last year in an alleged extortion case.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate V K Sharma had granted anticipatory bail of Rs 25,000 to Hasina Parkar and others, stating, ''If the facts of the first information are considered to be the gospel truth, the alleged act committed by the accused (Hasina) does not fit the definition of extortion.'' Her name figures in the FIR filed by the Anti Extortion Cell with respect to a Slums Rehabilitation Authority scheme dispute at Wadala in south-central Mumbai.
On April 21, 2007, an FIR was registered against Hasina on basis of a complaint lodged by real estate agent Vinod Avlani on December 19, 2006.
