Pandit Gautam awarded 'Rajya Sangeetha Vidwan Award'

Mysore, Oct 8 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today presented the 'Rajya Sangeetha Vidwan Award' to noted Hindustani Vocalist Pandit Dr M R Gautam at a glittering function in front of the famous Mysore Place here.

The award carried cash Rs one lakh and citation and shawl.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Yeddyurappa announced that the Dasara Festivities would be made more attractive in the coming years and proper plans would be formulated within three month. It was also decided to hold Dasara Festivities in Taluk levels all over the state.

Stating that the Award has been presented to the various musicians since 1993 and this process has been continued from the Royal family of Wadiyar.

He said that his government strive hard to solve the peoples problems particularly for the farmers and poor people. It was also committed in make the Karnataka as a modal state in the country in the coming years.

Pandit Gautam is a disciple of Pandit Rama Rao, Gautam a Ph.D degree holder in music, has not only served as head of department of music at Banaras Hindu University and also served as Vice Chancellor of Indira Kala Sangeetha University of Khyragarh, in recognition of his contribution to the field of music, state Sangeetha Nrutya Academic gave his as award in 2001.

Receiving the honour Mr Gautam thanked the state government for the award.
