Manipur University tense due to tribal students stir
Imphal, Oct 8 (UNI) The Manipur University (MU) campus, Imphal, was tense today owing to a stir launched by the tribal students demanding increase in reservation seat for tribals.
The All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) and Manipur University Tribal Students Union (MUTSU) had called a 36-hour bandh which concluded yesterday.
Over 100 students were detained during the stir. However, except some leaders, most of them were released, police said.
About 100 tribal students today left the hostel of the University feeling insecure.
ATSUM spokesperson Joseph Hmar said the students would launch a stir if the leaders were not released.
The Manipur University Teacher's Association had urged all not to resort to violence during the strike. It appealed to all to take up the stir in a peaceful manner.
