Ex chair Kairana Municipal corp, UP arrested in fake currency racket
New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI) The Delhi Police have arrested Hazi Anees, an ex chairman of the Kairana Municipal corporation in Uttar Pradesh, in connection with a racket of fake currency operating in Delhi and neighbouring states and seized from him fake currency to the tune of Rs 3 lakh.
Anees was arrested from Kardam Puri and fake currency notes in the denomination of Rs 500 to the tune of Rs 3 lakh were recovered from him.
Anees, who was earlier arrested 25 years ago at IGI airport for smuggling gold from Dubai, has been chairman of the Municipal committee in Kairana in UP from 1992 to 1996.
During interrogation, he disclosed that fake Indian currency is being printed at Quetta in Pakistan and from there it is being brought across the border by the passengers of the Samjhauta Express.
Anees claims to have visited Pakistan eight times and Dubai, twice. Incidentally, his son Amzad was also arrested by the Shakarpur police for possession of fake currency.
