{image-violence in Assam_07102008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Darrang/Udalguri (Assam), Oct 7: Hundreds of riot victims are thronging relief camps in Assam after at least 40 people were killed and thousands were left homeless by ethnic clashes between Bodo tribals and Bangladeshi settlers. Women living in the relief camps said they were relieved to be alive.

"Much injustice has been done to our people. At present we are here, coming from far away places and we are facing a lot of difficulties. We somehow managed to escape running through the fields and reached here," said Munu Boro, a riot victim. Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that about 50,000 people have been affected by the clashes and added that paramilitary forces have been deployed in the worst-hit Udalguri and Darrang Districts.

The violence between Bodo tribals and migrant Muslims broke out on Friday in Rowta in Assam's Udalguri district, and has since spread to neighbouring districts.

The authorities have called in the army and paramilitary forces to bring the violence under control.
