Raj MLA on hunger strike in protest against custodial death

Jaipur, Oct 7(UNI) The relay hunger strike led by MLA Pramod Jain Bhayya in protest against custodial death in Baran District Jail, continued outside the Baran Mini Secretariat for the fourth day today.

Jain sat on the hunger strike on october 3 following alleged suicide by inmate Surendra Singh Meena in his jail barrack, demanding filing of FIR against jail officials for the custodial death,compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the inmates family and government job to one of the family member.

Meanwhile, the victim's family today took the body and performed cremation on assurance from officials.

According to authorities inmate Surendra Singh had committed suicide but the report of his death had agitated the prisoners who had come out of their barracks alleging that authorities were responsible for his death.

They had resorted to damaging property and set afire jail furniture alongwith the office record.

The violent prisoners had taken control in the jail for several hours and forced the jail officials to flee out for safety.

The order was restored in the jail later when police entered the premises and controlled the situaiton after using mild force.

There were about 250 inmates in the jail.
