Chandigarh, Oct 7 (UNI) ''Poompoohar 2008'', a five-day cultural event with focus on the promotion of art and culture of Tamilnadu in other states, will be jointly organised by Tamilnadu Government and the Chandigarh Administration here from October 15.
Tamilnadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, General (Retd.) S F Rodrigues would jointly inaugurate the event.
The details were worked out in a meeting presided by Union Territory Home Secretary Ram Niwas. The meeting was attended by Tamilnadu Resident Commissioner, Mr Jagmohan Singh Raju, South Zone Cultural Centre Director K V Giridhar and Chandigrh Public Relations Director Vivek Atray.
The event would involve various departments of Tamilnadu Government and Chandigarh Administration and the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala and South Zone Cultural Centre (SZCC).
''Poompoohar 2008'' would focus on the promotion of the Art and Culture of Tamilnadu to the other states of the country, support Tamilnadu's tourism and expand marketing opportunities for artifacts and crafts of the State.
The cultural event would provide an opportunity to the residents and visitors of Chandigarh to comprehend, admire and know the art and culture of Tamilnadu.
Number of activities, including exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts, sarees and tapestry, skill demonstrations, music and dance programmes, costume shows and food mart, will be organised during the event.
The SZCC with active participation of NZCC would organize the cultural show showcasing the folk and classical art forms of South India as well as North India.
Tamilnadu Tourism Development Corporation, Poompuhar and Cooptex will set up their stalls to exhibit paintings, handicrafts and textiles.
