Orissa govt announces a statue in memory of Laxmi Panda

Bhubaneswar,Oct 7(UNI) The Orissa government today announced to install a statue at Jeypore in memory of the eminent freedom fighter, Capt Laxmi Indira Panda, who died at All India Institute of Medical Science in New Delhi yesterday following a brain stroke.

Laxmi Indira Panda, a member of the Azad Hind Fauj, had joined the Indian National Army of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose in the Rani Jhansi Regiment when she was only 14 years old and fought against the British for the country's independence.

State Governor M C Bhandare and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid their last tributes to the great soul at the Bhubaneswar Airport after her body arrived today for cremation.

The last rites were performed here with full state honours and a guard of honour was also given on behalf the state police.

Later, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced to install a statue at Jeypore in her memory.
